EV owner made to pay road tax, fine due to Nagpur RTO blunder
The owner of an electric vehicle (EV) in Nagpur was on Wednesday forced to pay road tax and a penalty — despite EVs being exempt under govt policy — after receiving a wrong demand SMS from the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The blunder has sparked concern about the efficiency of transport administration as the country pushes for faster EV adoption.
EV sales in India cross 20 lakh in FY25; two-wheelers hold over 50% market share
New Delhi: Cumulative electric vehicle (EV) sales in India reached 61.66 lakh units by the end of financial year 2024–25, with over 20 lakh units sold during the year, according to the Annual India EV Report Card: FY2025 released by JMK Research.

‘No decision on GPS-based tolling from 1st May 2025,’ government clarifies
In view of the multiple media reports claiming that FASTags will be replaced by a satellite-based tolling system from May 1, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Friday (April 18) issued a clarification. Refuting these claims, the ministry confirmed that no such decision has been made.
Centre notifies rules for Radar-based speed measurement devices; to be enforced from July 1
In a move aimed at strengthening road safety and ensuring fairness in traffic enforcement, the Department of Consumer Affairs has notified new rules for ‘Radar equipment for the measurement of the speed of vehicles’ under the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011. The rules will come into effect from July 1, 2025, giving sufficient lead time for industries and enforcement agencies to comply with the regulatory framework.
BluSmart rebrands itself as Uber Green in Bengaluru: Report
BluSmart, once seen as a competitor to Uber and Ola in India’s electric ride-hailing space, has been rebranding its fleet under Uber Green, as per a report by NDTV Profit. The move comes after the company halted cab bookings across Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai due to a major financial fraud, involving its financial backer Gensol Engineering, that SEBI had flagged this week. The company, which took a Rs 900 crore loan for EVs, has allegedly diverted Rs 262 crore to purchase a DLF Camellias flat.

Crude oil imports bill up 2.7% to $137 billion in FY25
India’s crude import bill rose by 2.7% during FY25, reaching $137.0 billion compared to $133.4 billion in the same period of FY24, according to data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell.

Volvo Group plans to lay off as many as 800 workers at three US. facilities over the next three months due to market uncertainty and demand concerns in the face of President Donald Trump's tariffs, a spokesperson said on Friday.
